Washington D.C. National Women's Parade

In 1913, the Great Suffrage parade took place in Washington D.C. The orchestrator of the parade was Alice Paul. She made sure that the parade happened the day before Woodrow Wilson's inaugural to gain more exposure for the cause. The parade featured 5,000-8,000 marchers led by activist Inez Milholland astride a white horse. Nine bands, four mounted brigades, twenty floats, and a dramatic pantomime marched to the steps of the Treasury Building. It took the women over one hour to move just ten blocks. The crowd was at least a quarter of a million people.
