Emmeline Pankhurst
When Alice Paul lived in England, she was part of the Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU). Emmeline Pankhurst was the leader of England's party. The party believed is using violent tactics against property to obtain their right to vote.
Emmeline Pankhurst in one of her speeches said,
"The Government must introduce and carry through a Government measure giving votes to women next session, otherwise the Government must go. I am perfectly convinced that this Government is past the stage to be educated to do its duty on t[h]is question, and so there is nothing left for the W.S.P.U. but to work their very hardest to turn this Government out."
In England, the women used violence after they realized asking nicely would not work. They burned down buildings, smashed windows, and were happy to be arrested.
